Educational Broadcasting consists of the use of the radio and television by teachers for educational purpose. Some educational programmes are provided on radio and television and are broadcast for the benefit of the students. Radio or television broadcast is focused on a selected body of knowledge, facts, ideas or skills for a defined population or audience with the intention of imparting knowledge and bringing about a change in their study habits. Educational broadcast is usually at scheduled times for target audience especially for primary and secondary school pupils and students respectively. This paper tries to evaluate the performance of educational broadcast, its usefulness and enormous challenges as well as probable solutions in its presentation. Educational broadcast does not come as an entity in itself, it makes use of the television and the radio schedules for the achievement of its set objectives.
Broadcast is regarded as the information spread through sight and sound organs to a number of people at the same time. This broadcast may be purely in relation to classroom environment or informal education.
Educational broadcast makes it possible to reach the target audience and enrich the educational programme so easily. New services can be introduced or special services offered in the classroom from members of the community such as talks by scientists, poets, government leaders, doctors or any kind of resource persons picked from the society. This is made possible through demonstrations where current events could be brought into the classroom. Educational broadcast programmes afford the teachers and the students the opportunities to be brought in contact with experts and students, and great personality of the world by hearing and seeing such people. Thus the lesson become more real and interesting.
